A Conservative Guide To Chaos

Don Martin, National Post : "A secret guidebook that details how to unleash chaos while chairing parliamentary committees has been given to select Tory MPs.
Running some 200 pages including background material, the document - given only to Conservative chairmen - tells them how to favour government agendas, select party-friendly witnesses, coach favourable testimony, set in motion debate-obstructing delays and, if necessary, storm out of meetings to grind parliamentary business to a halt. "
The guide says a "disruptive" committee should be adjourned by the chairman on short notice. "Such authority is solely in the discretion of the chair. No debate, no appeal possible."

Well, that certainly explains recent events, doesn't it?
Ditto - talking for six hours on transparency in an effort to prevent evidence being given that government knew of mistreatment of detainees, and not showing up at all to hear witnesses on the committee for the Court Challenges Act.

"A source at that meeting confided that [government whip] Mr. [Jay] Hill "lavished praise on the chairs who caused disruptions and admonished those who prefer to lead through consensus".

Wow. Admonished those who prefer to lead through consensus.
You can read the rest of Chaos For Dummies here : When to be naughty, when to be nice.
Hill's defence : "Canadians elected a Conservative minority government, not a coalition of opposition parties."

See, that's where you're dead wrong, Mr Hill - because that's exactly what we elected.

Getting things rebranded for all of us

A screen shot of the website of the ruling party of Canada.
The "flip flop" background behind Dion is a nice touch.
But the best part is their headline : "Replacing Liberal Talk with Real Action on Climate Change".
How very true. One of the 'things Steve got done' this month was to eliminate the Climate Change Policy Directorate at Environment Canada after rebranding their initiatives as his own. The CCPD are the experts "responsible for implementing new policy, co-ordinating climate-change efforts among different government departments, and analyzing their potential impact."
CJOB : "The memo came just as the prime minister embarked on a national tour to announce a series of green initiatives that were largely prepared by the division now being dismantled."
Hey, thanks for the great green talking points for Steve's road trip, guys, but I reckon your work is all done now.
"The (policy) work now is being done by a very small handful of people under the direct supervision of (the Privy Council Office) and Prime Minister's Office."

Ipsos Reid : Getting Things Done For CanWest

Check out the branding from Ipsos Reid for their Canadians Assess Their Federal Leaders poll for CanWest :

“Someone who will get things done”

  • Stephen Harper (51%)
  • Stephane Dion (25 %)
  • Jack Layton (24 %)
Someone who will get things done?
Someone who will get things done?

Gosh, I don't know that one.
Can I do the one about "the thirteen years" instead?

Accidental Deliberations takes it apart.

Steve and Sandra get things done

The ubiquitous slogan : "Getting things done for all of us"
Shorter : "Getting things for us" and "Things done for U.S."

Steve's communications director Sandra Buckler fired off several rounds of bucklershot yesterday not explaining why London North Centre Con candidate Dianne Haskett is not permitted to speak to the media [Ed. note - Gays! Guns! GOP! God!] as part of her campaign.

Sandra finished with a new variation on the theme :
"Vote for a candidate that will be a part of a government that gets things done for families and taxpayers."

Whoa, Sandra. Waaay too long, girl.
Try these instead : "Vote for Families" and "Things for Taxpayers".
