Rebranding Canada as Harper Canada

Harper Canada ...
On a gc.ca website, no less. This is presumably what the HarperCons call our country amongst themselves - Stephen Joseph Canada being just a tad too informal I guess.
h/t David Akin

Update : Glen McGregor counts 449 press releases using "Harper Government" from crown or government departments from Sept 21 to Dec 11 2012. That's 8 per day, as Glen says - twice that number if you include the French version.

Upperdate : Toronto Star, March 3, 2012 : Tories rebrand ‘Government of Canada’ as ‘Harper Government’
"A directive that went out to public servants says “Government of Canada” in federal communications should be replaced by “Harper Government.”
One year later, Global, Natty Post, and the G&M are all running the same CP story on this :
"It could have been a post-budget typo, or a cut-and-paste accident, but one government agency briefly rebranded the country “Harper Canada.”Agency spokesman Alex Smith said it was simply an editing error, and was promptly corrected — to read “Harper government.”
So we're all good now it's back to "Harper Government", are we?

  4. Canada should be called. Harper's Northern Foundation Government. Harper was Policy Chief for that party in 1989. That is likely where, Harper's abusive, Fascist Dictatorship stems from.

If I had my druthers? I would leave Harper, Ottawa and Alberta as, Harper's Northern Foundation Government.

Provinces not wanting to be given to Communist China, should get out now. I am sick to death with Harper's thieving our tax dollars, to give to the wealthiest corporations in the world. Nor, do I want to pay for houses, for Harper's corrupt regime.

I want the rest of the Provinces to become, the New Canada. We want our Democracy back. We want our decency back. We want Harper's thefts to stop. We want to win back, Canada's good name. We can't as long as we have, Harper at the helm. He has disgraced and shamed Canada. Not even other country's can stand Harper's bullying and hissy fits when, he doesn't get his own way. Harper is a sickening embarrassment, everywhere he goes.

  6. Well, unless the Opposition gets their collective sh_t together, we're stuck with harper Canada 'til we get flaherty Canada or pit-bull baird Canada.

No matter how this crowd screws up, they still get the votes - one way or another.

    Pitiful . . . .

  8. Interesting long article about Flanagan and federal assimilationist policy toward First Nations:

  9. I got around to looking at the website the Flanagan article is on and it looks pretty dire, conspiracy theories etc. I know Anthony Hall is a longtime education professor at U of Lethbridge; and may be a little far out on the fringe on some topics.

  10. Flanagan and Hall, both of them scholars and activists on opposing sides of FN issues for decades.

Hall's Earth into Property is a very interesting take on North American history. Youtube interview with Hall re his book here.

Conspiracy theory - a unproven proposal attempting to explain an event/phenomena on which you feel you've been given misleading or intentionally inadequate information.
Some of them (Nixon was behind Watergate) turn out to be better than others (alien lizard people were behind Nixon).
    So far. ;-)

  11. I think Art Buchwald said the worst thing about Watergate was that it proved the conspiracy theorists were right.

  13. "...the Department of Finance says it did not order Photoshopping of the GO Trains, and points to a unilateral decision made by Ottawa-based advertising firm, Acart Communications."

See, Holly, it's just like RBC explained about their outsourcing to the offshore company they hired - not their fault!

    Yeah, saw that re RMG.
Oddly, someone from RBC was reading my iMarketing Solutions posts today.
