Hey Alberta, who's your daddy?

This year's Smithsonian Folklife Festival is going to feature the "culture of Alberta".
"Festival director Diana Parker said the Smithsonian worked with Albertan scholars, government officials and ordinary citizens to come up with ....."

Go on, take a guess. What's it going to be?
The Calgary Stampede? The Oilers? Wheat-henge?
Nope. The "culture of Alberta" is a monster truck and the tar sands.

From Canadian Press :
"One in three Alberta jobs depends on exports to the United States and 85 per cent of those exports are petroleum and natural gas."

we lived in the united states of alberta for 5 1/2 years. save for the foothills, rockies, a few other spots and good friends, that was 5 1/2 years too long.

Is it time to pick on "I think I'm supporting all of Canada with my stinking oil" Alberta? Their hands will be out in a few years when we're all driving nuclear powered cars from Ontario. Then they'll stop dressing and acting like they're from Texas.

Wheat-henge.
Heh.

Hmmm... I'm starting to realize there's a more active culture in yogurt than there is in Alberta.

With the exception of the Edmonton Fringe Festival, I think the Stampede and the legend of Peter "Let the eastern bastards freeze in the dark" Lougheed is as close as Texas North gets to having a culture...., that and maybe the Gordon Lightfoot tune "Alberta Bound"

So it's settled: When Alberta is an independent country, it'll be Lougheed on the front of the $100 bill, uber-monster truck on the back.

And don't worry about the other demoninations. In the Repbulic of Albera, they'll all be 100's.

Alberta is Rona Ambrose's "Made in Canada" answer to Kyoto.

In the quieter movements I wonder if it would be possible to airlift Jasper and Banff out of Alberta to another more deserving province. Then we could call them Texas North and be done with it.
