The fired, the dismissed, the muzzled, the smeared, the set up, the forced out - the ones who spoke up and lost their jobs, the ones we know about :

Next on the chopping block, according to Lawrence Martin at the G&M today, may be CRTC Chair Konrad von Finckenstein for not rubberstamping KoryMedia Fox News North's request for a Category 1 licence last month, which would require cable companies to include Fox News North as part of a basic cable package. Finckenstein's vice-chair has already been booted.
On March 30, 2009, Stephen Harper, Kory Teneycke, Rupert Murdoch, owner of Fox News, and Roger Ailes, president of Fox News and former communications adviser to Richard Nixon, Ronald Reagan and George Bush Sr., all sat down to lunch. We know this because it showed up in media consultant/former White House flack Ari Fleischer's mandatory disclosures with the U.S. Justice Department. Ari had a personal contract with Steve, you will recall, to grease US media wheels for him. Looks like Steve got his money's worth.

I posted this one at Gods and Monsters:
"A B.C. scientist fired for lampooning an order to call Stephen Harper's Tory government "Canada's new government'' is back on the job.
Geologist Andrew Okulitch said Tuesday he was reinstated as a scientist emeritus with the Geological Survey of Canada after a call from the deputy minister of natural resources.
The 64-year-old Saltspring Island resident, who has worked for the federal government for 35 years, said he was fired Sept. 5 after he e-mailed an undiplomatic response to a government directive.
The government memo ordered him to use the phrase "new government of Canada'' on official correspondence from the Geological Survey of Canada.
Okulitch immediately fired off an e-mail saying civil servants are not paid to mouth political slogans.
He said the policy was "ridiculous and embarrassing'' and said he will use Geological Survey of Canada in any official correspondence "as opposed to idiotic buzzwords coined by political hacks.''
Minutes later he received an equally blunt e-mail from the Natural Resources Ministry saying Okulitch's misdirected views reflect the decision to immediately remove him from his position..."

He was the first firing. The first Civil Servant to recognize that Harper was using the Civil Service as a propaganda tool.
The Okulitch story inspired the longlasting BnR thread about the current federal government: "It's the New Canadian Government, peon."
They are real slow learners.

I don't think they're even trying to learn, Holly. I think they just hope to bully us all into eventually acquiescing to a "New Canadian Fascism, peon."
I am hoping this story continues to have legs -- Chantal Hebert covered it in her column, and asked why the other MPs and Senators had remained silent. The Liberals have produced the Enemies list and that term seems to have been picked up.
Stephen Taylor published an OpEd in the National Post comparing the Liberal firings of people like Peltier to the Conservative firings. But generally the Liberals fired people for incompetence, while the Conservatives fire people for being too competent!
