Malalai Joya - Canadian book tour

Suspended from the Afghan parliament in 2007 for speaking out against the warlords and drug traffickers who comprise Afghanistan's government, Malalai Joya, elected on a platform of womens rights, now lives like a fugitive in her own country. What does that tell you?
Joya's cross-Canada speaking tour and book release begins Friday in Vancouver at the Sun Yat Sen Gardens and then Saturday at St. Andrew's Wesley Church at Nelson and Burrard.
Update : Very good interview with Joya at The Tyee

I once read Terry Glavin making light of her "rhetorical moments."

The turd has the gall though to point to his first-hand "knowledge" of Afghanistan to try to silence his critics.

I hope she lives a long, productive life and sees a better country for herself and her people.

Check Harv Oberman's keeping it real, we're debating the "mission" in Afghanistan. It's been lively at times! Thanks, I linked you in my arguement :)

Hi Kim
You'll forgive me if I don't join in but you go, girl! Harvey is a civil sort but I've been arguing this for eight years now and have lost my appetite for debating how many civilians and troops must be sacrificed to keep the trucks flowing at the Detroit border. Some more ammo for you :
Bare-headed bare-legged women students at Kabul University in 1995 :
"Prior to the CIA-backed civil war in Afghanistan and the Taliban rule beginning in 1996, 50% of the students and 60% of the teachers at Kabul University were women, and 70% of school teachers, 50% of civilian government workers, and 40% of doctors in Kabul were women"

"85% of aid money to Afghanistan goes straight to overhead and profits for private foreign contractors."

Thanks, I will use that!

Damn! I wish I would have known about this as I would have moved heaven and earth to hear Joya speak in person.
