Star Wars Episode I - The Phantom Menzies

Ted Menzies, the Conservative Party trade critic, thinks Canada should restart missile defense talks with Bush as a way to get the Americans moving on softwood lumber. www.ceasefire.ca/
Wasn't The Phantom Menace about a trade dispute?
I fell asleep watching it right after the part where the leader is deposed by a non-confidence vote so that the Trade Federation can replace him with someone even more corrupt.
We better not fall asleep for this one.

And then there's this guy

who has landed on my head three times now, the most notable occasion being while I was delivering crutches at 1am to a man in his forties who believes in fairies.
You can't make this shit up!

Salmon

Like some blue and silver koi with a tiny yellow sail.
A few feet away ducks were feasting on one who hadn't made it.
As a friend put it ...all the beautiful things eat all the beautiful things.

The Golden Gumboot Award

A nice companion piece to the Year of the Privileged Plate.

Response from the very funny Berserkley :
"The gumboot yuppies will be lining up for them! I heard Eddy Sanders Bauer will be opening a shop here to carry them, along with other exclusive lines like cashmere fisherman hats, linen 'denim' shirts, Ralph Lauren jeans with silk lined pockets and rips and tears designed by Robert Bateman, woolen socks knit by cooperative groups affordably housed in rows that circle a 'fabric sweat shop' who are allowed out twice daily to the food bank, exclusive gortex yachting rainwear fashioned with colours by Tony Onli, and 'his and her' matching Squamish Nation jewelry saying 'Made by OUR First Nations People' ....however, it will be written in Squamish and will translate to 'Fuck you, haoli, since when when were we YOURS!' And the winner in the Vancouver civic election is ...

Well it was a long hard battle but the people of Vancouver have voted to
give themselves 700+ new parking spaces on Southwest Marine Drive.
Of course we won't know who the other winners are till the campaign
contributions become public in March.
Presumably we can now commence describing the neighbourhood
merchants who complain about it as NIMBYs.
