Occupy Wall Street media coverage : Day 3
The Guardian : The call to occupy Wall Street resonates around the world *
New York Examiner : Protestors take Wall Street in "Day of Rage" against corporate cronyism .
Wall Street Journal : Wall Street Protesters Plan to Stay Awhile .
Business Week : Wall Street Areas Blocked as Police Arrest Seven in Protest .
International Business Times : Occupy Wall Street Protest, Day 3
Georgia Straight : Anti-capitalist protesters descend on New York City, but where's the coverage? .
Good question, Georgia Straight. Let's see ...
CBC, Toronto Star**, G&M, PostMedia, CTV, Reuters Canada: ... zzzzzz ... crickets ... zzzzzz ...
Thanks so much for that, Canadian MSM.
Three Koch-funded tea-baggers communing in a bathtub have you all flying in film crews but the occupation of Wall Street somehow reminds you how important the Emmys are to all of us.
Roseanne Barr speaks at Occupy Wall Street and announces her run for presidency.
The most fascinating part of the livestream coverage for me over the weekend was the really incisive discussions and then, after the NYPD demanded no signs and no amplifiers for speeches, watching hundreds of people learn the logistics of direct democracy in a decision-making process : how to give everyone a voice without a hierarchy and how to use the "human microphone" to ensure all are heard.
Everyone watching via the net learned from this. An invaluable lesson.

* OK, so Kalle Lasn cowrote this one
** No Star coverage except for Antonia Z on Friday: Is the Arab Spring coming to America?

"This is the Freedom Ride of this era"
"This is the Freedom Ride of this era - to get on this boat, make it to Gaza, to join our stories to their stories, to know that these oppressions can be ended."Toronto Star reporter Jim Rankin is filing live reports from Greece onboard the Canadian boat Tahrir carrying 19 Canadians to Gaza, two of whom have been arrested and held without charges. The ship was boarded by the Greek authorities and towed back to port four miles short of international waters after making a run for it. It is now reportedly leaking diesel and taking on water, having been damaged while being detained.
Meanwhile ....
Haaretz : Israel, Greece mark growing ties with joint air force drill
Greek and Israeli air forces hold two-week-long drill as the two countries' ties tighten following Greek government's attempt to halt the Gaza-bound flotilla from departing. The Guardian : Greek coastguard forces Gaza 'freedom flotilla' vessel back to port
"Spiros Spirou, the provincial official in charge of the Ionian islands, told the Guardian that he "admires and supports the activists' struggle" and said he would make no attempt to stop the ship if it left harbour. "Greece loves peace, but at this moment it can't confront more powerful economic forces," claimed Spirou, adding that official attempts to tie the flotilla up in bureaucracy and paperwork were merely a pretext to preventing it from sailing at all.""more powerful economic forces"
Israel must be congratulated on outsourcing its Gaza blockade by extending military control of its coastal waters to include those of Greece.

On media pron and tabloid police work
It's time to pull the media off the pictures of the serial killer wearing a girl's bra and panties.
My veterinarian's guidebook advises the best strategy for separating them is to talk soothingly to them until the swelling goes down and do not throw water on them.
Well fuck that. Here's some much-needed buckets of clear analysis from Antonia Z and Mirabile Dictu on how media pron covered up tabloid police work :
Forced entry .
WTH is up with Mallick? .
Caught flat-footed .
Serial killing 101 .

Antonia wants a public inquest. I want to know why coverage and analysis like hers and Elizabeth's isn't running on the front pages of newspapers.
